Steven E. Hughes (hugesevenths) is a student of Kent State University, Ohio (USA), where he is completing an MFA (Masters in Fine Art) in Visual Communication Design.

Steven focuses primarily on illustration: “I went to school to become a graphic designer, but found illustration while I was there and put all my time and energy into that part of the curriculum.

“My illustrations are in traditional media like acrylic, collage, and oil. I use Photoshop for colour comps and sketches.

“I’m just getting into T-shirts, for which I use Illustrator.”

Steven has glowing admiration for a lengthy list of artists. Here’s a few of them: Brad Holland, Vuillard, Gary Kelley, Klimt, Sterling Hundley, the Wyeths, Cezanne, Bernie Fuchs, Greg Manchess and Natalie Ascencios. (“There’s something in each of these artists that compels me. It could be an idea, a colour, composition or drawing that I find inspirational.”)

Steven is an avid photographer and a keen follower of the Cleveland Indians baseball team. In his spare time he enjoys such wholesome pursuits as gaming, watching movies and playing poker.
