Atom Ant says: “We envy the life of the sloth. (One sentence, two deadly sins: cool!)”
MAKI say: “Sloths were favourite animals for a while - that was until we discovered the Ring-tailed Lemur.”

SlothLife was our second MAKI commission, and it was inspired by a passage from Yann Martel’s The Life of Pi.

Matthijs and Kim (for they are MAKI) have obviously done a superb job with the concept, giving the work the look of a surreal zoological text. (It’s a formalist structure invaded by weirdness!) The design, on the army-green tee, strikes a nice balance between kooky and trendy.

Interesting postscript: in his recent book, The Cold War, the historian John Lewis Gaddis writes that the premise of The Life of Pi (a young boy and a tiger inhabiting a lifeboat) is an accurate metaphor for the nuclear stand-off between the USA and the USSR. So there you go.

I'd sleep all day, given half the chance.
